MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical Provide information and advice to patient, carers and staff on all aspects of cancer, its treatment and the support services available. To offer particular expertise in the field of radiotherapy treatment and the management of treatment related toxicities in line with department and Trust protocols and National Guidance. Deliver a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care by appropriate sign-posting to relevant staff, services or agencies. Promote patient/carer independence through the provision of relevant education and support. Provide confidential support to patients utilising a range of recognised counselling skills. Act as a patient advocate through the application of ethical, legal and professional knowledge and skills. Undertake radiotherapy on-treatment review clinics providing expertise in the assessment and management of treatment related toxicities and initiating treatment in line with evidence based protocols and in liaison with the patients Clinical Oncologist. Implement and disseminate change in practice through policy and guideline development. Coordinate the radiotherapy treatment pathway for specified patients groups particularly those undergoing multi-modality treatment. Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others. Provide specialist education and training to other professionals involved in patient care. 2. Managerial / leadership Participate in Macmillan Service Reviews in order to drive service improvement. Lead on the implementation and monitoring of adherence to relevant clinical guidelines. Lead the development, management and promotion of the service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost-effective care. Line manage the HCAs associated with the clinic area 3. Research and education Take a lead role in formal and informal education of all Health Care Professionals as appropriate, in relation to cancer treatments, particularly radiotherapy and treatment related side effects. Work with other disciplines and support agencies to promote the service in the hospital and community. Actively promote research-based practice in the area of Clinical Oncology and collaborate with radiographers and nursing and medical staff as appropriate. Participate in the Induction of new staff. Ensure that people affected by cancer are aware that they are interacting with a Macmillan Professional and know about the full range of resources and services available through Macmillan. Collate and record quantitative and qualitative data to provide evidence of productivity, outcomes and quality, through audit and research and provides Macmillan with an Annual Report demonstrating the evidence. 4. Professional Development Take personal responsibility for life-long learning and personal development through clinical supervision, appraisal and actively engage with learning and development opportunities offered by Macmillan. Develop new skills in response to emerging knowledge and techniques. Undertake reflective practice and maintain a portfolio of learning. Participate in individual performance review. 5. Other Duties Comply with health and safety legislation throughout the Radiotherapy Department, reporting accidents promptly and taking appropriate action in line with statutory requirements and Trust procedures. Be aware of the appropriate course of action in any emergency, particularly in relation to occurrences of cardiac arrest or fire. Ensure that Trust wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care to all who come into contact with the services provided by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust. Comply with the College of Radiographers and Health Professionals Council statements on: code of conduct, patient confidentiality and administration of medicines. Any other duties in accordance with the grade and nature of the post as required by the Radiotherapy Service Manager.
