An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Acute Assessment Unit at Bedford Hospital for a band 5 staff nurse to join our ever-expanding team.
Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) is responsible for creating flow for patients from ED through AAU to the base wards. On the patients journey they will arrive to AAU from ED for further assessment/ investigations/ treatment. AAU care for a whole variety of patients from various specialities including, Medical, Surgical, Gastro, Gynae, Otho, Neuro, Mental Health and more.
Nurses on AAU work within a team to deliver our patients a high standard quality of care. AAU has 30 beds and has a very high turnover, requiring nurses to be on the ball, alert, organised and able to prioritise their workload.

The post holder will work as an effective team member by taking responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care provided to patients within the Acute Assessment Unit.
The post holder will work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver the objectives of the Acute Assessment Unit to provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan for all patients. This streamlined approach will aid with the flow of patients through the wider hospital. Provide a coordinated and efficient service for the patient to ensure that they receive all assessments, investigations and results in a timely manner to enable same day discharge. Proving a positive patient experience is a key component of your job role.
Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a passion for Acute Medicine.
You will need to be an excellent communicator, organizer, creative thinker, problem solver, team player and be willing to deal with complex and difficult situations and competing demands.

Provide a high standard of evidence based care to patients in line with hospital policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate record keeping consistent with legislation, policies and procedures in line with NMC Code of Conduct.
Take responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance and maintain own portfolio in line with knowledge, skill framework.
Ensure the information recorded on Trust clinical systems are accurately reflected on the ExtraMed bed management system for day-case patients if applicable to ward service requirements.
Answer the telephone take referrals and deals with enquiries from hospital staff and the public concerning admission, transfer, discharge and review appointments of patients.
Communicate in an efficient and effective manner with all staff, patients, visitors and external sources, identifying any problems and dealing with them in a tactful manner.
