Summary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage warehouse operations at South Elmsall to ensure the team meets output targets by effectively managing warehouse operatives.

  • Ensure all aspects of the warehouse run within budget and meet service, security, stock control, health & safety, and legal standards during your shift.

  • Support and contribute to plans that improve the quality and efficiency of operations.

  • Achieve customer service targets for warehouse operations on your shift.

  • Deliver service targets in a timely and cost-effective way.

  • Provide input into the budget process.

  • Help manage labour costs (both fixed and variable), ensuring overtime and agency use stays within budget.

  • Keep equipment costs down through good use and regular maintenance.

  • Effectively manage Shift Team Managers, making sure all key performance measures are met.

  • Support the training and development of your team to build strong management skills.

  • Maintain high standards of behaviour by using the disciplinary and grievance processes properly, working with senior managers and HR when needed.

  • Monitor absence and timekeeping across the team and keep this to a minimum.

  • Communicate regularly with your team and ensure clear, effective team briefings take place.

  • Maintain good working relationships and promote positive industrial relations within the warehouse.

  • Taking full ownership of health & safety in the warehouse, helping build a safety-first culture on site.

  • Managing warehouse costs and productivity, ensuring the operation stays within budget and keeps stock loss to a minimum.

  • Leading your team to deliver excellent customer service with minimal disruption to supply and strong branch availability.

  • Driving continuous improvement across the warehouse and promoting a culture of change and progress.

  • Being a strong role model and motivational leader, coaching and inspiring a large team of Managers, Operatives and Clerical Colleagues using Winning Manager behaviours.

  • Able to step up and cover the General Manager role when required.

Key Capabilities:

  • Commitment and ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent people management skills and the ability to develop self and others
  • Experience of applying a working knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. Health & Safety, Employment Law, Discrimination etc.
  • Ability to effectively plan labour and resource to deliver operational requirements to a timely manner whilst meeting agreed KPI’s and Service Levels
  • Able to identify problems and provide effective business solutions
  • Effective team worker and confident and positive communicator.

Previous experience within a Warehouse operation will be essential. Excellent people management skills together with the ability to plan resource and report KPI information with accuracy are key skills for this role.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrates high levels of initiative, focus and commitment and flexibility
  • Excellent understanding of multi temperature warehouse / transport procedures and compliance
  • Experience of volume and cost planning
  • Management experience in a FMCG environment of at least 3 years
  • PC skills for Excel / Word / PowerPoint and WMS experience
  • Knowledge of Transport operations / legislation is preferred but not essential.

The successful candidate will be required to work predominantly weekdays but flexibility of hours is required with operational needs and may include the occasional weekend working.
