An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Therapy Assistant looking to join our Acute Respiratory, Critical Care & Surgery team. Our teams of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Assistants are based within a large acute Trust. This post will provide successful applicants opportunities to work with the team to rehabilitate patients within an acute setting. This post requires you to collect information from patients and families, prepare patients for treatment sessions, carry out treatments and order and maintain equipment as directed by a qualified therapist. The post holder needs to be driven to provide high quality care, working closely with other professions to ensure excellent patient outcomes.



• To provide skilled routine, and non-routine, clinical and non-clinical support to the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Team and any other professional staff, and clerical staff associated with the team.

• To accept routine patient referrals as defined within the framework matrix and assess and treat according to protocols and guidelines. To monitor patient progression and make alterations to intervention as required. To discharge routine patients once their therapeutic goals have been met and an appropriate discharge plan established.

• To work independently, with access to direct supervision as required. To maintain close communication with the Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist/team to facilitate patient care.

• To participate in the Assistant and team/departmental induction and in-service training programmes. To contribute to in-service training to Integrated Therapy team colleagues.

• To carry out other duties deemed necessary by the Clinical Lead/Clinical Specialist in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service.

Our patients are benefitting from ourWomen’s Health Hubin Ilford; anAgeing Well Centrein Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) atBarking Community Hospitaland atSt George’s Health and Wellbeing Hubin Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. This post offers the following opportunities:
• Joint working with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in a clinical and non-clinical support role with support from our multi-disciplinary team
• In-house training to allow you to develop your understanding of common conditions and their management
• To assess patients with straightforward requirements based on predetermined department protocols
• Prepare for, carry out and monitor assessments and treatments in specified clinical areas, and discharge in line with predetermined department protocols
• Modify and progress intervention / treatment using own clinical reasoning, notifying a qualified practitioner accordingly
• Demonstrate problem solving, and contribute to the solution, working with colleagues
• Be responsible for ensuring equipment is used safely, following appropriate training, and that it is maintained appropriately
