Organisational Overview
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) protects people in England and Wales who may not have the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves, such as about their health and finance. We are an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), set up in 2007 following the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act of 2005.
OPG is responsible for registering lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and enduring powers of attorney (EPA) and supervising deputies who are appointed by the Court of Protection.

Team Overview
Business Insight & Service Delivery (BISD) Team support Operations in a multitude of work streams.
We monitor and provide assurance on the performance of Operations including statistical analysis, forecasting and assessing risks. The regular insight we provide supports the business in its day-to-day decisions. The team provide both regular performance updates and responses to ad-hoc requests including Freedom of Information requests and parliamentary questions in a timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
• As a Management Information Analyst you’ll be working within the BISD SIS (Supervision & Investigation Services) team to provide analytical support to SIS teams.
• Producing and updating spreadsheets and tools to collate and record data on work completed and work outstanding.
• You will be responsible for production of monthly performance review and impact indicators review in order to prepare the monthly Insight Pack, validating data and raising any discrepancies with relevant teams and Business Insight Service Delivery Manager.
• You will collaborate with SIS colleagues, contribute and participate at local management meetings to obtain required information for the Insight Pack.
• You’ll be expected to display a commitment to continuous improvement, leading change, and improving performance. This often includes working with colleagues and your manager to suggest and implement improvements to business practices and the services we offer, considering the needs of our customers and stakeholders and can-include both digital and non-digital solutions.
Agreed Expectations
The successful candidate will have a choice to work from their preferred site choices of either Nottingham (Embankment House) or Birmingham (Victoria Square House) and will be expected to work from their base location on a weekly basis in line with current Civil Service requirements, outside of any reasonable adjustments. We encourage a hybrid way of working which includes some remote/home working alongside office working.
The following is subject to business needs and satisfactory performance: All new starters are able to work from home once your line manager has signed this off. This is pro rata for part time staff.
All new starters in the Nottingham Supervision team are required to attend the office full time (37 hours per week) during the first 3 weeks of technical training. Following those initial weeks you are expected to continue your training and consolidation in the office but any agreements for part time working can commence.
We require part time staff to commit to at least 29:36 working hours over 4 days per week as a minimum.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential Skills
• Ability to obtain, understand, analyse and manipulate large quantities of statistical data, turning this into useful information which can be used to support strategic decision making.
• Ability to simplify complex datasets in order to make recommendations which are communicated in a clear and concise manner orally and in writing
• Proficient in the use of all Microsoft office products, particularly Excel.
• Flexible approach, with the ability to manage and prioritise own work and to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work with colleagues within your own team and those from other parts of the OPG, as well as external stakeholders
• Committed to give a high quality of performance in all aspects of the job
• Ability to adapt to change and consider continuous improvement
Desirable Skills
• Ability to create custom tools within Excel and VBA or other programming language to simplify the collation of data
• Ability to use advanced formulas and pivot tables within Excel
• Ability to produce dashboards in PowerBI
• Familiarity with SIS processes and ways of working
