Southwark CAMHS – Adolescent Service – Fixed-term post (to 31.07.2025)
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the adolescent service, part of Southwark CAMHS, for a full-time fixed term Specialty Doctor in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, based at Mapother House. This is a full-time post within Southwark CAMHS. The postholder will join the Adolescent service, an MDT for children and young people (12-18 years old) and their families presenting with moderate/severe mental health needs. The postholder will also be supporting the work of the Adolescent Outreach team; this is an MDT working across the service offering intensive treatment interventions at flexible locations to actively prevent further deterioration and possible hospital admission.
The post does not include any out of hours on call commitments. Clinical supervision to the post holder will be provided by the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who is also the line manager for the post. The team also offers placements to Core and Higher Trainees on the SLAM/Oxleas Training scheme.
We are looking to appoint a specialty doctor with excellent organisation and communication skills and the ability to work independently but also seek advice and guidance as appropriate from the clinical supervisor and members of the MDT.
The key areas of responsibilities are:
• To carry out mental health & risk assessments on children & young people and to manage these situations effectively.
• To use pharmacological interventions, as appropriate, in partnership with children and their families and networks of care.
• To assume responsibility for own case list and case management of children and families, with support from the clinical supervisor.
Mapother house is based on the Maudsley site. The Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2).
The main responsibilities of the post include:
· To carry out mental health & risk assessments on children & young people and work under the supervision of the clinical supervisor to manage these situations effectively.
· To participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in the assessment of children and young people presenting with mental health difficulties, providing a high standard of care.
· To assume responsibility for own case list and case management of children and families, with support from the clinical supervisor
· To use pharmacological interventions, as appropriate, in partnership with children and their families and networks of care.
· To formulate mental healthcare and treatment plans that are specific to each child and family, based upon an analysis of complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes contributing to the presentation.
· To assess safeguarding issues as they arise, consulting with other professionals and referring concerns to the appropriate safeguarding team as required
