Crynodeb

The West Yorkshire AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) Screening Service serves the population of Huddersfield, Calderdale, Bradford, Airedale and Craven and Screening is delivered within the community across this geographical area.

The West Yorkshire AAA Screening service is a fast paced, demanding environment with the team performing more than 6,000 ultrasound scans per year for men aged 65 years and over. Screening Technicians are expected to work and report autonomously.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake the Health Screeners Diploma (AAA) training. During this time the post will be renumerated on a Band 3 salary. This has been developed to provide screening technicians within the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme (NAAASP) a nationally recognised qualification. This will ensure that screening technicians follow a structured and supported route to enable them to become qualified health screeners. Undertaking the qualification will provide trainees with the skills and knowledge to deliver a safe and efficient service. Trainee technicians will need to complete the required mandatory and core units and will be supported locally by their Clinical Skills Trainer (CST). The training is carried out locally and in the Manchester area and candidates will be expected to travel to Manchester once or twice a week for the duration of their training. Travel expenses will be paid.

We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation. Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. They are part of the NHS – yet decisions about what they do and how they do it are driven by independent boards. Boards listen to their Council of Governors and respond to the needs of their members – patients, staff and the local community.

Foundation trusts provide what the health service wants, yet are also free to invest quickly in the changes to the local community needs, in striving to be the best, and in putting their patients first.
