Should have experience working in schools, preferable within school attendance as the role involved working with schools to increase attendance of pupils and also to manage a caseload for those families that choose to Electively Home Educate (EHE)

Skills & Experience:
A good standard of Educational and/or vocational qualifications to A level standard, including Maths and English at GCSE Grade A-C or equivalent.
Child Protection Training, or be willing to undertake this training on appointment.
Completed training related to Data Protection and Freedom on Information Legislation or be willing to undertake this training upon appointment.
Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation which supports the work of a EWO, including the Education Act 1996.
Knowledge of the current legal framework in relation to the prosecution process regarding irregular school attendance.
Knowledge and understanding of the risks and needs that children and young people experience which negatively impact on the family unit; stress, unemployment, domestic abuse, adult mental illness, caring responsibilities, crime, anti-social behaviours and substance misuse.
Knowledge in relation to safeguarding Child Protection, and how to escalate a referral to appropriate agencies when required.
Experience in giving guidance, in relation to education welfare service provision to; schools, attendance staff, Headteacher, governors and other multi agency partners.
Experience of understanding issues that impact children and families as they relate to irregular school attendance and overall well-being.
Substantial experience of working with ‘hard to reach’ individuals, parents, young people and children, with complex and challenging needs.
Good computer skills, having the ability to demonstrate usage of information management systems
People and project management skills, managing groups and individuals with complex and significant needs
What's involved with this role: You will manage a caseload to ensure children receive an education in line with the Education Act 1996, Section 444. Working within a multi-agency team, you will adopt a strengths-based approach to improve school attendance and outcomes for children. You will lead and attend multi-agency meetings to support families and reduce risks, ensuring compliance with DfE and local guidelines to deliver a high-performing service.
Key duties:
Undertake all aspects of the Education Welfare Officer role, managing a caseload of electively home-educated pupils.
Provide support, advice, and guidance to professionals on school attendance, developing action plans to meet Service Level commitments with schools.
Ensure prompt, consistent intervention for pupils with poor attendance, advising schools on compliance with attendance legislation and challenging poor practice where necessary.
Support schools with safeguarding concerns related to non-attendance, identifying potential issues such as Child Missing Education, school refusal, or exploitation risks.
Ensure schools have up-to-date advice on attendance legislation and promote best practices.
