Working Hours: 35 Hours per week (140 hours over a four week period including weekdays, weekends, bank holidays and sleep ins. Early/late shift)

Additional Payments: Casual car user allowance, Flexibility payment 10%

Qualifications: Diploma Level 3 in working with Children and Young People in Residential Care or its equivalent. Or be willing and able to undertake it within 6 months of being appointed.

Candidate must hold an up to date nationally recognised certificate in the use of physical intervention and restraint and as approved by Children’s Residential Service.

Candidate must hold current and up to date training certificates demonstrating satisfactory completion of mandatory training as required by the Children’s Homes Regulations

Medical Clearance - Pre-placement health assessment (PPHA).

Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders and it is available upon request.

About the Role:

This is a new and exciting opportunity as Manchester City Council are opening a new Children’s home for two young people aged 11-17 years. We are looking for people who believe they have the qualities and skills needed to support our children who are emotionally challenging and have complex needs.

You will need to be resilient and be able to establish and maintain relationships with young people, to challenge their existing patterns of behaviour. You will help create a culture and ethos within the home in which the needs of the young people are paramount, and they are encouraged to develop, mature and grow. In addition, you will work proactively with other professionals across multi agencies and with parents to assess the young people’s needs and ensure positive outcomes.

A good standard of verbal and written communication and ICT is needed. The team will work proactively in maintaining a high level of care for the young people. The team are consistent in their approach whilst working together in order to provide the best possible care to the young people they work with.

Manchester City Council has high aspirations for the young people who live in our homes. As well as being able to work flexibly, you work on a rota basis which will include early, late, sleep ins, weekends, and bank holidays.
