Summary

At Cheltenham Borough Council, we take pride in managing some of the town’s most iconic buildings and structures. From over 4,500 council homes to historic listed buildings, leisure centers, swimming pools, war memorials, and even a football stadium, our portfolio reflects the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of Cheltenham.

Our Property Team oversees everything from routine maintenance to multi-million-pound redevelopment projects. Right now, we’re making record investments to enhance these spaces—driving sustainability initiatives, refurbishing properties, meeting new legislative standards, and delivering exciting new-build projects.

As a Building Surveyor, you’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the council’s diverse property portfolio. Your expertise will ensure that our buildings remain safe, functional, and well-preserved for generations to come.

Your Responsibilities:
- Ensure building work complies with council regulations, codes of conduct, and financial policies while maintaining health and safety standards.
- Manage reactive and planned maintenance projects, ensuring contractor compliance, procurement regulations, and cost scrutiny.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with tenants, leaseholders, service managers, and stakeholders.
- Identify the need for specialist contractors and propose process improvements to enhance value for money in building services.

To be successful in this role, our ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in Building Surveying or a construction/property-related subject.
- A relevant technical or professional qualification (RICS, CIOB, or equivalent) or be working towards one.
- Evidence of continued training and professional development in a related field.
- Experience in building relationships with a range of stakeholders.

Ready to make an impact while growing your expertise in a supportive, dynamic team? We’d love to hear from you.
