Defra Jobs

Do you want to be part of a lively and supportive user research community? Do you want your work to contribute to Defra’s mission to help safeguard the natural environment and the UK’s world-leading food and farming sectors?

Then join us as a Research Operations Panel Manager, where you will manage and co-ordinate a large and complex user research panel. You will be responsible for the recruitment, management, engagement and support of a panel of over 1,000 participants engaged in Defra programmes. The programme has an ambition to grow the panel over the next few years.

User researchers are key figures in the teams that design and deliver services. They help their teams develop a deep understanding of the people - citizens, businesses or government colleagues - who use a service. Their findings allow their teams to design and build better services more quickly and at lower cost and risk. This is an important and exciting time for research operations, which includes knowledge management, quality assurance, and the implementation of processes and templates that enable user researchers to do their best work.

You will be expected to manage panel health including building and maintaining relationships with current panel members, expanding / building the panel through new outreach and relationships. The role requires technical expertise of GDPR, providing comprehensive and authoritative advice on legislation. The role requires the ability to persuade and influence more senior grades to adhere to ethical and legal research practices. You will be responsible for devising new processes to manage the complex panel. Researchers often need participants within very short timescales so you will need to have the ability to push back and handle challenging conversations.
