Summary

Who are we and what we do

The Health Policy Fast Track Scheme (HPFTS) is a three-year developmental scheme under the Department of Health and Social Care, with 10 available roles.

When you join the Health Policy Fast Track Scheme, you are joining the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) who play a vital role in leading the nation’s health and social care, to enable everyone to live more independent and healthier lives for longer.

It will provide you with a unique, hands-on experience – one where you get to shape, develop, and deliver evidence-based policies that positively impact people’s lives. The scheme promises variety, as well as the chance to build your skills into a rewarding career. That means some days you might be leading briefings for committee hearings with ministers and on other days, you will be working with front-line services and stakeholder organisations – all while you’re working towards becoming a top policy professional.

You will also receive a fully funded study package towards a postgraduate qualification in Health and Social Care Policy in years two and three of the scheme.

Improve the health and social care system with your policies

DHSC adopts a flexible style of working offering locations in both London or Leeds, with hybrid and flexible working to support your work-life balance. Over the span of three years, you will undertake several work placements in areas like Global and Public Health, Adult Social Care, Secondary Care and Integration and Primary Care and Prevention.

This role caters to a variety of ambitions – with leadership development opportunities and exposure to policy skills that’ll allow you to take ownership. After you successfully complete the scheme, you could potentially progress to leadership positions where you can further develop your experience, should you want to. These jobs offer a competitive salary range of £54,444 to £58,542.

Our commitment to inclusivity

We’re determined to reflect the society we serve, so we welcome applications from people from all walks of life and backgrounds, even if you don’t have experience in a government or policy role. We understand that a diverse set of people may have a diverse set of needs, and we strive to create a space that allows every single person to bring their whole selves to work. We’re happy to implement any changes or reasonable adjustments that will help remove or reduce a disadvantage, if you have any, both during the recruitment process and after. All you’ll have to do is inform us of what you need before the closing date. We also run a Disability Confident Scheme (DCS) for candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum selection criteria.

Apply now to shape the future of health and social care policy.
