Outdoor Learning Teaching Assistant

Purpose: To support the delivery of outdoor learning experiences onsite, possibly using Forest School tools , that promote pupils' personal, social, and emotional development, as well as their physical and academic skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supporting Outdoor Learning

• Assist in delivering an engaging outdoor learning activities that align with the curriculum and promote experiential learning.
• Facilitate Outdoor sessions onsite, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for all pupils.
• Encourage pupils to explore, investigate, and connect with nature, fostering a sense of curiosity and respect for the environment.

2. Promoting Personal Development

• Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting high self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion.
• Support pupils in developing social skills and emotional resilience through group activities and outdoor challenges.
• Work with the Deputy Headteacher to monitor and assess pupils’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as necessary.

3. Ensuring Safety and Well-being

• Implement and adhere to health and safety policies and procedures during outdoor activities.
• Review and update risk assessments for outdoor learning sessions and ensure that all necessary safety equipment is in place.
• Promote the safeguarding of all pupils by following statutory guidance and school policies.

4. Collaboration

• Work closely with teaching staff to integrate outdoor learning into the wider curriculum and deliver the agreed outcomes for learning goals
• Communicate effectively with families to engage them in their child's outdoor learning experiences.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support pupils with diverse needs.

5. Professional Development

• Engage in continuous professional development to enhance knowledge and skills related to outdoor learning and Forest School practises.
• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to share best practises and contribute to the school’s development.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Relevant qualifications in education or outdoor learning (e.g., Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Forest School Leader qualification).
• Previous experience working with children in an educational or outdoor setting.
• Knowledge of the National Curriculum and understanding of how outdoor learning can enhance pupil engagement and achievement.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and
• Enthusiasm for outdoor learning and a passion for promoting environmental awareness among pupils.
• Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to manage challenging situations in an outdoor environment.

Additional Information:

• This role will require working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• The postholder may be required to undertake other duties as directed by the headteacher or line manager
