Crynodeb

The Lighting Technician will assist the Head of Lighting and Deputy Heads of Lighting as part of Theatre Royal Plymouth's (TRP's) Technical department. The role will be focused on delivering an effective and flexible service to ensure the delivery of lighting requirements for all in-house, co­ productions and visiting program on the Lyric stage. The Lighting Technician's role will be key to the day to day running of performances within the venue, ensuring technical excellence for every performance rehearsal and event. The primary role will be show running in the Lyric Theatre.

Here are some of the key duties you will undertake:

Principal Tasks

Principal tasks will be to operate Follow spots and other Show related duties for performances as required.

To participate in get ins and get outs of productions in house, coproduced and of visiting companies as required, contributing to the safety and efficient operation within current theatre practice.

To assist with the maintenance and testing of theatre lighting equipment
Supervise the training of new follow spot operators to ensure they meet the standards required.

To assist with delivering technical projects as agreed with the Head of Lighting and/or Deputy Head of Lighting

Regular contributions to technical staff meetings

Involvement in learning and development opportunities including Engagement and Learning activities, support of training schemes and training courses as appropriate.

Any other reasonable duties as may be requested from time to time including cross-venue working, support of toured work externally, and courses or work outside of Plymouth

To be aware of the Health and Safety policies of the company and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.

Skills/Experience

Essential:

Good communication/people skills.

Ability to operate lighting and sound during performances.

A helpful, team orientated approach and a willingness to take responsibility when needed.

A committed approach to health and safety in the workplace.

Some theatre lighting/sound knowledge.

Basic Stage and rigging skills.

Good housekeeping skills.

Desirable:

Experience of get in’s/outs and show running in a theatre environment.

Experience of programming ETC lighting consoles.

Some electrical knowledge.

Interest In theatre making and design
