IPaSS offers support to children with vision and hearing impairments and physical difficulties in a range of settings across the city. The Vision Support Team are currently seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Level 4 Vision Support Specialist Teaching Assistant.
IPaSS is currently based at Oakfield School Site, 220 Hopewell Road, Hull, HU9 4HD. However, this post will be based in educational settings across the city. The post holder with be required to be efficiently mobile between different settings as and when service needs require this. The successful candidate should be prepared to work in different nurseries, schools, or colleges, supporting a range of students, dependent on service needs.
They will be expected to work with the educational setting staff to support access to the curriculum by:
Producing high quality resources in the appropriate format – Braille, tactile format, large print or digital.
Maintaining communication with class and subject teachers to ensure resources are appropriate and useful.
Providing direct classroom support where needed to ensure access to the curriculum and safety.
Following directions from the Qualified Teachers of the Vision Impaired or Lead Practitioners to provide one to one teaching of specialist skills.
Build strong relationships with the students to provide emotional support and develop resilience.
Support pupils in settings ranging from pre-school to sixth form and foster independence.

Skills and qualifications:
At least a C grade in Maths and English GCSE or equivalent. SEN Qualification or HLTA desirable
High level of IT skills
Qualified UEB Braillist or willingness to undergo Braille and other specialist training.
Good communication and time management skills
Be able to build strong working relationships with school staff.
Ability to work at pace and under pressure.
Ability to move easily between different work locations as and when required.
Ability to implement, monitor and review schemes of work.
Ability to support CYP with transition between phrases and or schools and to help organise and manage resources in the learning environment.
