SEND officer Role
- Managing Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs): SEND Case Officers manage the creation, review, and amendment of EHCPs for students with SEND. They ensure that these plans reflect current needs and are compliant with the legal frameworks governing SEND provisions.
- Liaising with Families and Schools: A key part of this role is acting as the liaison between parents, schools, and other agencies. This ensures that all parties are involved in decision-making and that the child's needs are being consistently met.
- Assessing Needs: SEND Case Officers conduct or arrange assessments to determine the level of support required by a student. These assessments cover not only educational needs but also health and social care aspects.
- Ensuring Compliance with Legislation: Officers must ensure that local authorities are meeting their legal obligations regarding SEND provisions, working within the frameworks of the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Another significant responsibility involves managing budgets and allocating resources effectively to ensure that EHCPs are adequately funded without exceeding limitations.
- Conducting Regular Reviews of EHCPs: Ensuring that the EHCPs are updated annually, reflecting any changes in the child's condition, and that they align with educational progress and future aspirations.
- Providing Guidance to Schools and Educators: Offering professional advice to teachers and school administrators on how to adapt their teaching methods and classrooms to accommodate students with SEND.
- Collating Information for Tribunal Cases: In cases of disputes over EHCPs, SEND Case Officers prepare evidence and documentation for tribunal hearings, ensuring that legal requirements are met and the child's best interests are represented.
- Coordinating Multi-Agency Meetings: SEND Case Officers organise and lead meetings involving multiple agencies such as healthcare providers, educators, and social workers to ensure a holistic approach to support.
This would include Elective Home Educated children/young people, Children subject to Education Other than at School/College and young people not in Education, Employment and Training.
The successful candidate will be familiar with the annual review process, decision making around annual reviews and able to amend EHCPs.
Training and Induction will be given on council processes.
