Crynodeb

re you someone who enjoys working in different environments whether outdoors in field trials or in glasshouse, laboratory and office situations?

If so, working within SASA and the role of Trials Officer may be of interest to you.

SASA is a division of the Scottish Government based on the outskirts of Edinburgh, consisting of offices, laboratories, glasshouses and an experimental farm. Our scientists and their supporters work to ensure the quality, safety and security of our food supply in Scotland, and contribute to the quality of our environment.

The post is based in the Seeds, Varieties & Trial Support branch at SASA.

The primary role of the Trials Officer will be to assist with trial preparation including sowing, raising, maintaining and assessing plant material. The majority of the work revolves around the collection of data on agricultural and vegetable plants, such as peas, swede and grass, primarily based in outdoor field trials. After a period of training, you will assist with seed collection management. In addition, tasks include regular monitoring of field and lab equipment ensure the smooth day to day running of the branch as part of the Quality Assurance system.

You will also be required to assist in other areas of SASA when workloads and priorities require it.

You should be adaptable to deal with seasonal peaks in workload and be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions to suit the need of the work.
