The opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and child focused person to join the Special School Team as a permanent term time Band 3 Clinical Support Worker. You will be working with the Special school Nursing team and this can include covering at any of the 5 sites if needed located in Halifax and Huddersfield. The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday to Fridays 08:30-16:00.

Experience with working with children is essential and also providing care to children with complex medical and nursing needs. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting children and families.

The successful applicant will assist the qualified nursing staff within the Special School Nursing Team to provide care and support to children and young people up to 19 years in the Special School environment. There will be opportunities to progress professionally supported by training and learning opportunities.

The Special School Nursing Team provides care for children between the ages of 4-19 years who are in need of nursing care in school.

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a HCA to join our well established team.

We are looking for an outstanding practitioner with experience of working in a community environment or healthcare role with children and young people.

You will have experience working with children, be motivated, proactive, committed and with excellent communication skills. You will work independently under the leadership of our nursing team, supporting with all aspects of nursing care and improving on the safety and quality of care at every opportunity.

This busy role requires you to be flexible in a constantly changing environment and able to work within the school environment.

The post holder will need to be prepared to cover when needed in any one of the other 4schools that are all in the Calderdale or Huddersfield area. However the successful candidate will be placed in one school site to base but this could be subject to change depending on the service needs.


Safeguarding
The Trust has in place both a Safeguarding Children Policy and a Safeguarding Adults Policy in line with national legislation.

The Safeguarding Policies place a duty upon every employee who has contact with children, families and adults in their everyday work to safeguard and promote their welfare. In the event that you have concerns about possible harm to any child or adult you should contact your line manager immediately or in their absence your Assistant Divisional Director. Out of hours contact should be made with the on-call manager through switchboard.

The Trust has nominated Safeguarding Leads who act as contact points for support and advice if concerns are raised about a child or adult’s welfare. These individuals can be reached through

switchboard during office hours by asking for the Named Professionals for Safeguarding Children or Adults respectively.

The post holder:-
• Will perform agreed plans of patient care to identified groups of children/ young people without direct supervision within the level of competency for the position.
• Complete competancies required for HCA working within a special school including medication management.
• Complete training in administration of emergency medication as per careplan with support of nurse on site. All relevant training and competencies to complete.
• Complete clear, acurate and precise documentation on system 1 of the care delivered during the school day.
• Act as a resource for families and children with health care needs
• Work collaboratively with the acute ward, GPs, HV’s and other health professionals to enhance seamless care and reduce deterioration of health or admissions to in patient ward.
• Monitor and ensure standards of care are maintained and that policies / procedures and protocols are adhered to.
• Always maintain respect and confidentiality
• Maintain clear and accurate documentation using an electronic system, raising issues of concern with a qualified nurse where appropriate.
• To encourage and maintain good relationship with the CCNT, Specialist Children’s Hospitals, Hospices, Medical Staff, Community Nurse Specialists and AHP’s in order to provide the best care.
• Know where and how to access all policies and procedures and adhere to them.
• Assist in the delivery and maintenance of equipment and supplies
• Monitor and record pupil’ weights
• Provide care of gastrostomy sites and assist with medications and tube feeding.
• Participate in the induction of new staff to the SSNT.
• Attend annual mandatory training, which includes basic life support and moving and handling.
• Undertake relevant additional training and competencies
• Attend and participate in regular team meetings
• Support students as part of their working placement.
