About us

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has a clear mission - to grow the economy. Our role is to help businesses invest, grow and export to create jobs and opportunities right across the country. We do this in three ways.

Firstly, we help to build a strong, competitive business environment, where consumers are protected and companies rewarded for treating their employees properly.

Secondly, we open international markets and ensure resilient supply chains. This can be through Free Trade Agreements, trade facilitation and multilateral agreements.

Finally, we work in partnership with businesses every day, providing advance, finance and deal-making support to those looking to start up, invest, export and grow.

The Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) directorate develops and operates tools and services to support us in this mission. The team have been nominated three times in a row for ‘Best Public Sector Employer’ at the Women in Tech awards!

About the Role

Join Department for Business and Trade (DBT) as a G7 Senior Data Analyst and help us transform DBT into an insight-driven organisation that tells compelling stories with its data. You will be based within a Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) team of data analysts who do and facilitate analysis with users across the department. We work alongside a multidisciplinary team who are responsible for developing our data and insight platform, Data Workspace. The platform gives our staff access to a large catalogue of data and a suite of user-friendly and secure tools to analyse it.

Our team uses Data Workspace and supports its users by monitoring and improving data quality, onboarding new datasets, helping other colleagues use analytical tools such as SQL, R, Python, and QuickSight, reviewing custom data visualisations designed by DBT staff, and creating analytical dashboards ourselves. Our team members are supported and encouraged to become expert users of a wide range of analysis tools to assist DBT colleagues and contribute to the department’s data-informed insights and strategic decisions. This is a role at the heart of analysis and data in DBT, that stretches across different workstreams.

About you

The ideal candidate will have a passion for solving real-world problems using data and enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team to deliver results. They will be an effective and collaborative analyst, and a great communicator.
