What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Lead Criteria: Proven track record of leading a team, mentoring junior engineers, and improving working practices.
  • Proven experience in scripting to automate processes, eliminating manual tasks, and implementing infrastructure and configuration as code.
  • In-depth knowledge of application and network protocols, including port management and certificate management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and enhance CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Strong experience in resolving complex technical incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and swift recovery.
  • Expertise in reliability engineering, including capacity and performance management through effective monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at various levels, providing valuable feedback and support.

You and your role

As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer, you will be using modern tooling to oversee production systems to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our production systems. You will have a passion for operational excellence and expertise in cloud platforms, monitoring tools, and automation frameworks.

You will lead by example, providing technical direction and supporting the development and progression of SREs within your team, making digital accessible, reliable, cost effective and sustainable.

We look to achieve this by creating scalable and highly reliable software systems and leading initiatives to develop the automation of low-value tasks balanced against project delivery demands.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Manchester, or Newcastle, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £89,995.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth over £21,000 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
