Focus Birmingham is seeking a passionate Care Support Worker who wants to 'Make lives better' by providing high-quality care and support to individuals with a visual impairment in a supported living service.
In this role, you will support individuals in their own flats, ensuring that they receive the service they need, to live their lives to the fullest.
Your ability to meet both the physical and emotional needs of the people we support will be crucial in making a positive impact. If you are motivated, dedicated, and have a passion for helping others, we want you to join our team!
Main Objectives:
• Provide person-centred care and support that enables individuals to embrace life and unlock their potential.
• Help Focus Birmingham deliver high-quality services that make lives better for those we support.
Key Responsibilities: Providing Person-centred Care
• Empower individuals to make choices and decisions that shape their lives.
• Use a variety of communication techniques to meet individual needs, including total communication methods.
• Support individuals to advocate for themselves or act as their advocate when necessary.
• Promote meaningful participation in activities that foster independence and social inclusion.
• Understand and contribute to each individual’s care plan, using our care planning platform.
• Assist with health and personal care, including continence care, and support with behavioural needs if required.
• Help individuals with mobility, using manual handling techniques and ensuring safe transport via the fleet.
Providing High-Quality Services
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of the care and support provided.
• Ensure key information is communicated clearly to Team Leaders/Supervisors.
• Complete Focus induction and skills development programs, with ongoing training.
• Participate in team meetings and offer contributions to improve services.
• Always behave respectfully to the individuals we support, their families, colleagues, and the public.
• Support new colleagues as they learn about the people they’ll be working with.
• Adhere to Focus’s policies and procedures to deliver high-quality care.
Essential Skills and Attributes:

• A team player who supports colleagues to be successful
• Can-do attitude; Ready to face challenges and provide the highest level of support.
• Able to support people who with a visual impairment both within the service and in the wider community.
• Be willing to learn and use communication techniques.
• Have a standard of English which enables clear and accurate recording
Desirable
• Prior experience in supporting individuals with care needs.
• Knowledge of Alternative Communication Methods: Familiarity with Makaton, PECs, or electronic communication aids.
• Ability to use basic IT systems for eLearning and updating care records.
