Summary
The Strategy Team sits at the heart of Business Group. We coordinate responses to challenges with a cross-cutting impact on UK industry. We support a diverse group of sector teams within the department including steel, automotive, hospitality, retail, and professional services, among many others. We also work closely with analytical colleagues to develop insights into critical policy issues.
The team coordinates responses to complex issues which impact a range of sectors. Examples include supporting the Permanent Secretary to understand business sentiment on policy, assessing the impact of the US election, and developing policy recommendations on how multinational enterprises influence UK policy. Our cross-cutting projects are often high profile and provide exposure to senior civil servants at the highest levels of Government. Other work includes monitoring and reporting on departmental priorities and representing the work of Business Group to central strategy teams. The role will be varied, and would suit a candidate with a proactive, solution-driven mindset and experience of working with evidence and data.
We are undergoing a period of transition and development; it is an exciting time for new colleagues to shape the direction and culture of the team.
We are a highly collaborative and supportive team, with a keen focus on development and work-life balance. We recognise the positive value of diversity and equality. We welcome job applications from people of all backgrounds.
The Strategy Advisor role involves:
- Supporting the development of projects in policy areas affecting a broad range of businesses.
- Engaging with sector teams to identify emerging business or economic risks and supporting teams to coordinate their input into cross-cutting commissions.
- Working with evidence and data to generate insights and supporting the development of effective policy recommendations.
- Supporting corporate activity for Business Group, including feeding into monitoring and reporting activities such as the departmental Delivery Plan.
- Supporting initiatives to develop Business Group’s ways of working, mission and vision.
