An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Practice Educator – Sleep and Respiratory Physiology (Band 7) at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. The Clinical Practice Educator – Sleep and Respiratory Physiology will take on a leadership role in developing and delivering training initiatives while supporting the growth of the service. They will oversee staff education, implement structured training programmes, mentor apprentices, and collaborate with external education providers to enhance learning opportunities. The postholder will provide day-to-day supervision and management of the physiology and technical team, ensuring professional development through appraisals, competency assessments, and mentorship. They will also maintain high standards of patient care by overseeing clinical activities, providing specialist advice, and contributing to IQIPS accreditation, audits, and research. Workforce and service planning will be a key responsibility, ensuring the efficient management of training resources while supporting policy and service improvements to drive excellence in sleep and respiratory physiology.

• Leadership
o Lead the development and implementation of educational strategies within the Sleep and Respiratory Unit, particularly Development of training strategies.
o Oversee and manage the allocation and support of both student physiologists but also students visiting QVH undertaking elective placement
o Provide clinical education and training whilst demonstrating awareness of cultural diversity in the workplace and the need to adapt training/support accordingly.
o Support and facilitate all staff in expanding their clinical skills and knowledge in keeping with professional and organisational requirements.
o Provide feedback which is constructive and supportive from observation and assessment in line with Trust policies and procedures.
o Assist with the monitoring and reporting on the levels of skills required and the gap in skills acquisition for all staff.
o To manage the learning needs of staff by integrating individual needs into service requirements.
o Play a central role in achieving and maintaining IQIPS accreditation through staff training and competency assessments.
o Ensure legislation, Trust policies and procedures and professional requirements are applied and delivered through all facilitation sessions.
o Act as a resource for advice and clinical support for learners, students, and team members.
o Facilitate staff development by integrating service requirements into individual training plans.
• Education and Training
o Demonstrate excellent communication skills to provide and receive complex information; with the ability to influence, negotiate and network with key stakeholders to develop and support clinical placements conducive to effective, evidence based learning and best practice.
o Be a role model and lead by example to ensure that the dignity, rights and confidentiality of the patient and individual team members are protected and maintained in accordance with national standards and guidelines.
o To collaborate with external education providers, to initiate new training provision where a departmental training need is not met.
o To communicate effectively with the department on training issues and provide constructive, accurate and factual observation feedback to students, newly registered and existing staff and facilitate learning and support.
o Coordinate clinical training for undergraduate and postgraduate learners, ensuring compliance with professional and IQIPS standards.
o Deliver formal training on lung function testing, sleep studies and CPAP/NIV therapies.
o Implement educational initiatives to meet the standards required for IQIPS accreditation.
o Develop e-learning tools and in-person training packages tailored to sleep, respiratory, and lung function practices.

• Clinical Oversight
o Provide specialist advice on complex cases in sleep and respiratory care.
o Support the application of advanced lung function testing techniques, such as spirometry, gas transfer, lung volume measurement, and reversibility testing.
o Participate in clinical audits and research to maintain evidence-based practices.
o Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures, and accreditation standards in all training activities.
o Assess and analyse a range of options to advise individuals on learning opportunities including courses or study days that will promote their professional development plans and ensure compliance with appraisal outcomes.
o Critically analyse practice and use knowledge to support evidence based practice.
o Review the Training Programme regularly to ensure that it meets the needs of the department and individual. Agree any changes required.
• Planning & Organisation
o Develop and manage training programs to meet departmental needs.
o Organise and deliver multi-disciplinary teaching sessions on sleep physiology, lung function testing, and respiratory care.
o Collaborate on workforce planning to address skills gaps and meet IQIPS requirements, using competency frameworks and gap analysis.
o Organise the delivery of a complex programme of training and educational opportunities within the Trust and department.
o Plan and deliver educational training sessions.
o To oversee the management of elective students on placement and follow process to ensure they are able to gain a positive experience.
