Crynodeb

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the department for economic growth. We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country.

This role is based in the Trade Defence directorate in the Economic Security and Trade Relations Group. The Trade Defence directorate works to ensure the UK is defended from unfair trade, market distortions and emerging threats to protect our economic prosperity and security.

We are looking to recruit a Policy Adviser to join the Economic Coercion team. This is a fast-moving area and the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in their delivery of departmental priorities.

The Economic Coercion team is responsible for developing domestic and international policy to build the UK’s resilience and capabilities to respond to potential acts of economic coercion, whilst shaping the international environment to reduce the likelihood and costs of this damaging practice. This is an intellectually stimulating policy area with significant political and international interest – you will support the delivery of policy priorities in a changing global context and sit at the heart of some of the most interesting geopolitical challenges of our time.

We strongly encourage applications from people with diverse skills, perspectives, and backgrounds to bring real strength to our team and the wider department.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the development and delivery of economic coercion policy work.
  • Managing relationships across Government, working closely with analytical and legal teams, to develop a strong evidence base to support policy recommendations.
  • Providing evidence-based policy options for strengthening the UK's capabilities to respond to acts of economic coercion.
  • Working effectively across the department to ensure that the team’s strategic priorities are reflected in wider departmental and HMG strategies.

You will need to be flexible to take on new workstreams and projects as required within the wider team and directorate.
