Creative Writing is a vibrant, growing discipline, and an integral part of the Department of English Literature and the School of Culture and Communication. The birthplace of Dylan Thomas, Swansea has long been considered an important creative and cultural centre, and Creative Writing is dedicated to the promotion of literature and imaginative endeavour in Wales and beyond. We are seeking to recruit both a full time and a part time lecturer in Creative Writing, working with a committed and supportive team, to deliver modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in dramatic writing (writing for performance/writing for the stage), writing fiction (literary, popular, writing for children), and writing creative non-fiction (nature writing, travel, memoir, et al.) All members of the Creative Writing team are professional practitioners in their own fields, many winning awards and international recognition for their work. We expect that all candidates will actively write and publish and believe they will be inspired by Swansea’s stunning location and rich, cultural scene. The successful candidates` may be asked to teach outside their specific areas of expertise and will also be expected to play a full role in the Department of English Literature and Creative Writing, in terms of administration duties, personal tutors, student support, and such tasks as appropriate to the role.’ Creative Writing offers a thriving undergraduate, Masters, and PhD program, with over fifty PhD students currently working in the area. Swansea University is the home of the International Dylan Thomas Prize as well as the Cultural Institute, championing arts and culture for all, nurturing partnerships, and enhancing student experience.
