Crynodeb

You will be responsible for the provision of highly specialist neuropsychological assessments and brief interventions with patients following stroke, assessing mood, adjustment, behavioural and cognitive functioning using clinical interview, structured observations, highly specialist psychometric measures and other assessment methods as appropriate. Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will advise patients, their relatives/carers, and non-psychologist colleagues about ways of supporting, managing or remediating mood, behaviour and cognitive difficulties. There will be opportunities to develop individual and group intervention pathways, in collaboration with the MDT.

Wider roles include supervising Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists, and (where relevant in future) junior qualified psychologists, and MDT colleagues. There will be opportunities to support development of service pathways under supervision from the Service Manager and Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, as appropriate to the role/service. This will include development and delivery of a consultation service to the wider community therapies teams, whose work includes rehabilitation and disability management for adults with a range of acquired and progressive neurological conditions.

Whilst working autonomously within the stroke team, the post holder will also be joining an expanding and supportive neuropsychology team. Our ethos is for every member of the team to grow as a clinician and a leader, and to be enabled to maintain their wellbeing in work. Supervision will be provided by the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist (or nominated senior colleague), which can be used to progress eligibility towards the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN) if wished. The post holder will also join our regular journal clubs and complex case discussions, as well as wider Psychological Therapies, Neuropsychology & Counselling (PTNC) network meetings across the Royal Free. All PTNC colleagues have access to virtual group supervision in a range of approaches, currently including schema-focused, narrative, ACT, psychodynamic, and EMDR modalities.

We welcome colleagues keen to share their own specialist interests/skills into our team. We have close links with the North Thames DClinPsy training courses, and encourage all colleagues to offer placements and deliver teaching as part of their CPD portfolio.

See job description for full details.

North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system – consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS’s, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.

We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George’s University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.
