Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the high-profile and fast-paced Arts Council Review team as well as providing executive support to the leader of the Creative and Cultural Futures team. These both sit within the Culture & Creative Industries (CCI) directorate. CCI comprises just over a hundred colleagues in three policy teams working across the creative industries, arts, and museums sectors, supported by a team of analysts. Our aim is to protect and promote the long term resilience of the very best of our nation’s cultural and creative assets to ensure they are made available to the widest possible audience, both at home and abroad, to improve the quality of life of individuals, communities and the nation, and promote the UK to the world.

The Review of Arts Council England is a priority area of work for the department. You will join the team of five supporting the Lead Reviewer, Baroness Margaret Hodge, to run a wide-reaching and dynamic review. The role will involve engaging with important stakeholders and supporting the development of the report and recommendations that will emerge from the review. The review process includes extensive evidence collection, analysis and then drafting a report making recommendations to the Government. This will involve extensive stakeholder engagement both virtual and in person, and arranging and regional visits across England, as well as managing a bank of written evidence including the outcomes of a survey.

The role will also include providing executive support to the Deputy Director for the Creative and Cultural Futures team. This includes ensuring their day runs efficiently and their time is effectively managed, as well as being able to co-ordinate their briefing and effectively manage correspondence. This vital role requires outstanding interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

ACE Review Team Support

The post holder will be tasked with managing the review-related diary appointments of the Lead Reviewer, which will include liaising with colleagues in other government departments that Baroness Hodge also works with. The role will also involve providing significant support in the management of correspondence generated by the review, as well as providing ad hoc administrative support such as booking trains and hotels.

This role will enable the post holder to gain in-depth knowledge of some of DCMS’s key delivery partners. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a good understanding of the work of a DCMS Public Body and its senior management team, to work collaboratively across Whitehall and to shape DCMS’ relationship with Arts Council England.

This role will appeal to an individual interested in the central workings of government, particularly those with a eye for continuous improvement and efficiency. The team is looking for self-starters who are able to work autonomously to support the review team and Lead Reviewer in their work.

The position requires excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to engage confidently with people at all levels. Candidates must be willing to develop their understanding of government, and able to work flexibly across team priorities as needed.

Executive Assistant

This role will entail managing and owning the Deputy Director’s diary; arranging and de-conflicting meetings; researching and booking travel options within DCMS policy.

The post holder will be required to provide office management services including room bookings, visitor management (booking and escorting), reprographics and logistics requests.
