About the Role

Due to an increase in team capacity, an exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and committed specialist teachers to join the Autism Outreach Team. The advert is for 2 full time teachers and one 0.8 FTE.

The Autism Outreach Team is a well-regarded and welcoming team, consisting of specialist teachers and practitioners with a wealth of knowledge and experience and a passion for Inclusion. We work with mainstream education settings across Leicestershire to support positive outcomes for autistic pupils in EYFS, and Key Stages 1-5.

We are committed to understanding autism as difference rather than deficit and as part of Specialist Teaching Service, we aim to improve opportunities, outcomes and experiences for children and young people with SEND in partnership with families, educational settings and organisations.

The successful applicant will have a caseload responsibility, which will focus on enabling schools to implement a range of teaching and learning strategies to support the progress and inclusion of pupils with a diagnosis of autism or communication and interaction needs. You will be confident in providing support and advice for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism or communication and interaction needs, their families/carers and educational settings within a multi-agency context.

The role involves maintaining thorough records of work undertaken and contributing to Education, Health and Care Plan assessments and annual reviews. In addition, you will engage with ongoing professional development to identify, develop and deliver resources that promote curriculum access for autistic learners.

You will work with children and young people, their parents / carers and school staff to identify both the strengths and challenges the child or young person is experiencing. Using this knowledge, you will then provide advice and information to identify provision which builds on their strengths and meets their identified needs. This will involve working collaboratively with Specialist Teachers, Educational Psychologists and other agencies where appropriate. Therefore, we welcome applications from highly motivated, creative practitioners, who enjoy working in a collaborative, solution-focussed way.

LCC’s Autism Outreach Team is the East Midlands’ Autism Education Trust’s regional partner and, as such, developing and delivering training to a range of audiences is a key part of the role.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.
