An opportunity has arisen within our Trauma and Orthopaedics service for an Orthopaedic Trauma Nurse Coordinator.

We welcome applications from committed individuals with a flare for Orthopaedic care. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable expert level of knowledge in Trauma and Orthopaedic patient care, enthusiastic for optimising patient outcomes and will display excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the case management of Orthopaedic patients facilitating their journey, expediting theatre planning, providing excellent communication to the patient and families to provide regular updates in a timely and appropriate manner.

Through improved coordination and communication between surgical and multidisciplinary staff your role will be vital to patient pathway improvement and effectiveness.
• Facilitate completion of all pertinent tests, specialist investigations and support the on-call T&O team to ensure their clerking is performed in a timely manner
• Ensure definitive treatment as quickly as possible by liaising with all disciplines involved in the patients’ care
• Participate in the daily Trauma & Orthopaedics Handover trauma meeting and ensure there is a cohesive and streamlined service for all Trauma & Orthopaedics trauma patients
• Support consultant–led patient care on the wards by attending the morning ward round as required.
• Take the lead role in the appropriate prioritisation of the Trauma & Orthopaedics trauma lists, considering the clinical needs of the patients in collaboration with Consultants.
• Liaising with administrative and theatre staff when arranging surgery as planned following the plastics trauma meeting.
• Support the organisation of admission and/or surgery of Trauma & Orthopaedics trauma patients from outpatient environments as required.

The Trust serves a large local population and is a specialist regional centre for a number of services including plastics and complex orthopedic trauma.

St George’s Hospital is also one of four hospitals in London to achieve the high standards to be designated a Major Trauma Centre in 2010, resulting in the receival of complex orthopaedic trauma from across SW London and Surrey.

With nearly 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, St George's is the largest healthcare provider in southwest London.

As well as acute hospital services, we provide a wide variety of specialist care and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.


• Work with all members of the MDT to ensure that the Trauma & Orthopaedics team objectives and projects are implemented to ensure a seamless delivery of service.
• Contribute towards developing effective protocols for each specified clinical pathway of the Trauma & Orthopaedics trauma service in line with nationally agreed standards.
