Works autonomously to manage his/her own caseload of patients whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team within colposcopy service. Willingness to attend cervical smear taker training and enrol on colposcopy accreditation course Be able to manage emergency situations Enables patient choice and involvement and initiates appropriate action. Coordinates and develops patient care pathway and liaises across organisational boundaries. Ensures each patient is placed in the correct treatment pathway at the appropriate time and necessary investigations and treatments are organised. Provides clinical advice and support to healthcare professionals within and across organisational boundaries. Provides clinical advice in accordance with current evidence-based practice. Undertakes nurse/practitioner -led clinics, participates in consultant led clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings. Participates in case conferences in relation to future management or discharge arrangements. Independent Nurse Prescriber or willing to undertake this qualification Financial awareness and knowledge of budget management Support the lead colposcopist in the development and review of evidence based local guidelines, procedures and patient information documents Support the lead colposcopist in the acquisition and validation of data to support the production of quarterly and annual performance information, including the mandatory KC65 return Support, and represent the views of, colposcopy nurses within the department Support, and represent the views of, other support staff within the colposcopy department To ensure a system to disseminate examples of best practice is developed and maintained. Promotes and encourages a learning culture and develops systems whereby evidence-based practice is supported and implemented. Provides liaisons with UWE/UoG/UoW for all matters affecting nurse education within the Colposcopy Service and works alongside Clinical Nurse Managers in ensuring appropriate clinical placements are made and ensuring a high-quality practice placements for students. Encourages the development of a supportive infrastructure at clinical level for nursing and midwifery research and development, promoting the dissemination of, participation and debate and the implementation of evidence-based practice Able to demonstrate commitment to self-development and life-long learning through Individual Performance Development Review To consolidate and develop personal knowledge, practical skills and clinical knowledge Provide expert advice, support and clinical education to nursing staff and junior medical staff in the care and management of early pregnancy and gynaecology patients Provide mentorship and clinical supervision of students, post-registration nurses and junior doctors and act as a resource and role model. Support and facilitate the integration of theory and practice to colleagues developing knowledge and skills for advanced practice To deliver expertise and enthusiasm so as to monitor the National Health Service Cervical Screening Program National Standards Participate in Trust-wide and National clinical audit projects to provide continued improvement to quality of care To Co-ordinate and/or participate in research projects within the Colposcopy Service and ensure they are carried out efficiently, effectively and within the ethical Guidelines of the Trust. Lead and/or participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of protocols, policies and ICPs that are consistent with National and International standards and current research, facilitating changes in practice which improve clinical outcomes and meet needs of patients and carers Network locally, regionally and nationally, working in conjunction with colleagues and organisations to develop the service. To set clinical standards and monitor progress against outcome measures in line with local and national strategies Critically evaluate evidence-based research findings from diverse sources in order the change or develop services and clinical practice Membership of British Society of Clinical Colposcopy and Pathology (BSCCP) Ability to work under pressure in a challenging and every changing environment Frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions e.g. Aggressive behaviour of patients, clients, relatives and carers; direct contact with bodily fluids, blood, wounds, unpleasant smells, infestation and foul linen. Adherence to all Trust policies relevant to nursing and current role Responsibility to manage challenging people and situations including those of conflict Breaking bad news and highly sensitive information to patients and their carers on a daily basis Expected to frequently manoeuvre patients/objects over 15 kgs using appropriate aids always in confined spaces. Ongoing requirement to exert moderate physical effort e.g. moving patients and heavy objects with occasional sudden explosive effort e.g. emergency situations Constant concentration on patient related activities within an unpredictable environment Frequently bending in confined spaces for long periods of time for wound and cervical assessment Use surgical instruments within a confined space to undertake colposcopy procedure Working across two or more hospital sites and driving a car between sites
