STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT /LEADERSHIP Attend and provide reports to St Vincents Board of Directors meetings ensuring clear and relevant information and advice, based on professional knowledge and understanding of the running of the home is provided. Act as a role model through the provision of effective professional leadership for relevant clinical areas and demonstration of competent and accountable clinical practice Participate in the 24 hour manager on call in line with the needs of the Home. Attend regular Management Team Meetings to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the home. Promote and maintain good teamwork, using effective and open communication, by means of staff meetings, written and verbal reports, where each member of staff is given respect and their contribution valued. Develop Policies and Procedures for the home and residents and review them in line with changing legislation, taking advice from Department of Health, CQC, and other professional organisations. Establish a transparent understanding within the home for processes relating to complaints, risks, health and safety, and clinical procedures. Ensure that prepared rotas, have adequate skill mix requirements applied, and that they meet the needs/dependency of the residents for a 24 hour period. Actively support the General Manager in the delivery of key performance indicators(KPIs) working collaboratively across the Home to support initiatives and developments. Ensure business continuity following any disruption to service delivery and to review and implement systems to manage any future occurrences. Establish links with other individuals and specialist organisations relevant to the Home, and is practised in accessing diverse sources of information, in order to maximise exposure to a wide range of current robust and reliable information. Actively promote legislation and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Be aware of, and follow, policies and procedures with regard to residents, themselves, other members of staff, equipment and visiting public. Ensure that there is an effective and efficient use of the budget and resources Develop initiatives and objectives in the development of the annual plan and home strategy. Resolve complaints as they arise through face to face communication as necessary and, when appropriate, investigate complaints relevant and supply necessary written responses Liaise with senior/managerial staff to bring to their attention any problems identified. Contribute to business, professional and strategic planning within the Home. Support Nurse Managers and staff through period of structural and operational change. CLINICAL Key Role: Managing Quality of Care Demonstrate knowledge of up to date clinical practice, explore new ideas and introduce positive, evidence-based practice in line with local and national initiatives using Essence of Care, and NICE Guidance. Undertake regular review and evaluation of practice, initiating change as appropriate, as part of Continuing Professional Development and ensure nursing staff are competent to practice Support the nurse managers to ensure they are developed to undertake management and leadership responsibilities to enable the effective running of their clinical areas and participate in on-call and acting up arrangements. Lead the nursing team to provide a high standard of resident centered care, based on a philosophy, that recognizes each resident as an individual. Using the Homes HR Policies and Procedures, manage clinical standards of poor performance, and the management of sickness and absence Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) 2015 Code of Professional Conduct and Accountability Ensure that staff support systems are in place across the Home and that clinical supervision and mentorship is in place. Appraise and assess measures used to prevent infection control hazards, taking into account the individual midwifery/nursing, social, physical and psychological needs of the service-user and that they are in line with national guidance and Health & Social care Act 2008 standards. Utilise available resources to ensure a safe and effective environment e.g. periods of unplanned or unexpected staff absence and / or equipment failure. This may involve reallocating staff around the Home. Be competent to encourage an environment of openness and respect within the home, directing, motivating and monitoring staff employed within the home. Clinically be a focal point for all health care professionals, involved in the care/wellbeing of the residents. Promote and be an advocate for the older person, having an understanding of the condition/diseases associated with old age. Ensure that all medications are held in safe custody and prescribed according to St Vincents policy and procedures. Be open and available for advice and support for all junior members of the clinical teams, to ensure that they develop in line with expectation. Investigate serious incidents in a timely manner and make recommendations and share learning from incidents and improve practice by, implementing action plans.
