Summary
Sense has a fantastic opportunity for a focused and collaborative individual to join us as Associate Director of Operational Services. This role will be based out of our offices in Selly Oak 2 days per week, with regular visits to our services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Associate Director of Operational Services will lead and develop the team, ensuring a person-centred approach to the services we provide to the people we support. They will be accountable for well led services operating within budget through the creation of effective business operating models to ensure that the people we support are provided the opportunities to live the lives they choose. Working in partnership with colleagues across Sense they will actively contribute to the senior leadership of the organisation, sharing responsibility for overall organisational performance.
The main duties and responsibilities include:
Ensuring that the operation of Sense services reflects the organisations’ vision and values
Ensuring that operational services meet or exceed all regulatory requirements, providing high-quality person-centred services that reflect the needs of the people we support
Supporting engagement with the people we support, with families and staff who work in operational services, ensuring visible leadership and excellent internal communication
Supporting a management culture that is performance based but is also supportive and which includes coaching at all levels
Ensuring sound financial management of the services, identifying opportunities for growth through innovation and/or new services delivering year on year growth
Driving revenue growth and market expansion by supporting the Group Director in developing and executing strategic marketing initiatives for operational services
Ensuring that the health and safety of the staff and volunteers that work in operations is maintained, as well as the people we support and for visitors
Working with the Group Director to maintain an up to date knowledge of developments across the sector related to the operation and delivery care and support services
Maximising the use of new technology within operational services with the aims of enabling people to be more independent and have more control over their lives, reducing costs, and increasing engagement with Sense staff and other stakeholders
Work with the Group Director on developing practice within the services, particularly as it relates to support to people with complex communication needs
Ensuring that managers proactively engage with their local communities, marketing the services to individuals and commissioners locally
Actively engage and contribute to the senior leadership of Sense, ensuring that Sense’s strategic objectives and decisions are well informed, , implemented on time and within budget
Working on projects and corporate activities as required, attending and representing Sense at events organised across the organisation
Working closely with the Fundraising Directorate to maximise the potential for charitable income
Ensuring effective joint working between operational services and all other parts of the organisation.
Maintaining and developing effective relationships with all Sense stakeholders including the people we support, families and advocates, commissioners and other funding authority representatives, regulators and inspectors, healthcare professionals and members of the public
Complying with all Sense policies and procedures and actively promote the principles of equality and diversity, working in a manner that maintains a safe, healthy and supportive environment for staff volunteers and the people we support
Keeping up to date in relation to any legislative or regulatory changes
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Demonstrable experience of working within a regulatory legal framework ie CQC, Ofsted, RQIA, CIW
Robust knowledge and understanding of the social and political context within which Sense works is desirable
Able to demonstrate a continuing history of achievement at Senior Management level in specialist education, social care, public or voluntary sector
Demonstrable experience of leading and managing major strategic change
A track record of promoting and delivering on the increased involvement of people in the design of their support services is desirable
A relevant record of developing and delivering services that reflect the changing social care agenda
Able to demonstrate a record of ensuring processes are in place that safeguard vulnerable people and deliver excellent quality standards
Experience of developing excellent working relationships, internal and external
Demonstrable commitment to listening to and valuing diverse views
A good leader with a high level of professional credibility capable of translating overall strategy and analysis into practical actions
Skilled in influencing, negotiating and building sustainable working relationships both internal and external to Sense
Encourages decisions to be taken all levels, providing clear boundaries, support and advice; and without giving up on overall accountability
Ability to interrogate and interpret financial and management information
