The Environment Agency values difference. That is why we are fully committed to being an inclusive employer. We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment.
The Deputy Director Transformation Portfolio drives the strategic direction, delivery, and transformation of the organisation’s corporate portfolio. You will be accountable for providing the strategic leadership of the corporate change and transformation portfolio office. This includes the vision and strategy setting and ensuring the effective running of the transformation portfolio office.
You will manage the business on best practice for developing business cases, transformation funding bids and evolved ways of working, delivering these centrally where it makes sense to do so.
You will ensure that transformation initiatives align with organisational goals and will drive operational efficiency and effectiveness through ownership of the corporate portfolio management approach for the organisation, delivered through nested Directorate and Functional Portfolios, Programmes and Projects.
This role is also responsible for establishing and managing a Centre of Excellence for Change Management, and Portfolio, Programme, and Project Management (P3M).
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity help during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to help you with your incident role.
The team
As the change centre of excellence, we’re dedicated to managing the EA's digitally led approach to transformation and providing assurance of other organisational portfolios with precision and insight.
We provide strategic leadership and direction, defining the scope and role of transformation within the EA. Our team is at the forefront of data and information management, digital innovation, transformation, and portfolio management. We ensure our transformation efforts align with the digital requirements of a modern organisation.
Experience/skills required
Whilst the role will be managing a team of experts, an excellent background is required in P3M and change management, as professional credibility is required when dealing with key external stakeholders.
Qualifications may include an MBA, Managing Successful Programmes, Change Management Professional, or attendance at the Civil Service’s Major Projects Leadership Academy or Project Leadership Programme.
Leadership experience will demonstrate:
o Proven ability to develop organisational and business knowledge at pace.
o Ability to successfully engage at a senior level internally and externally with demonstrable success in developing and delivering corporate strategies.
o Proven experience of crisis management, re-prioritising resources, working under pressure and at pace during national situations.
o Experience of providing strategic guidance to senior managers within a large and complex organisation.
o Ability to influence senior managers and develop strategies through to implementation and action.
