The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Practitioner to join North Somerset United Kingdom Resettlement Team. The Resettlement team are responsible for families and individuals seeking sanctuary and safety via Government Resettlement programmes supporting Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine and work closely with the Home Office and Central Government to fulfil our commitment to resettle refugees to assist with the global humanitarian crisis.



The Senior Practitioner role will involve supporting the families and individuals and working in partnership with local government, professional partners, voluntary groups, and charities, developing plans for resettlement within our communities.

You should be well organised with effective communication skills both verbally and in writing. Have the ability to coach and mentor colleagues within the team. You will also be prepared to be flexible to achieve the outcomes of this scheme. The ability to engage and support colleagues, families, individuals and partner agencies to understand the challenges faced by refugees is essential.

You will be responsible for supporting the Team Leader in creating processes to support our Team Plan, line management of staff members, hold professional case discussions and reflect the positive culture of the team.

This is a full-time post and being offered on a fixed term contract with the possibility to extend.

In this role, you will;



Key Responsibilities:

Support the Team Leader in the day to day management of the team which will include case discussions, development and line management of team members and working to develop new processes and embed these in our work
To case hold families and work with them to settle and integrate into the community
To work with key stakeholders to ensure that a robust package of support is available to refugee families in the community
To work closely with Housing and Finance colleagues to support the Team Leader in fulfilling the LA commitments
To support the reflective and positive team culture and to use the learning and feedback from families and children to shape the interventions offered by the team
To work with the Team Leader to ensure robust recording systems and data reports are completed


This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check which will include 5 years of references and address history.



Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role



Work Style

However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

2-3 days in the office
Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.


About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working in this area and understand the complexities of the work. We require applicants who possess the following skills and experience:



Essential Criteria:

Vocational qualification or experience comparable to level 4 or above with a significant level of experience relating to the role.
5 GCSE’s or equivalent including maths and English grades A-C or equivalent.
Significant experience of working with refugees and understanding the challenges and barriers children and families will face. To have a ‘can do’ and strengths-based approach to support families settle, integrate and flourish in North Somerset
A comprehensive knowledge of policies and procedures around the Government Resettlement Programmes
Experience of multi-agency and partnership working and contributing to team planning
