About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated District Heating Engineer to join our team. This role involves working within domestic properties to ensure the efficient operation, repair, and maintenance of systems connected to district heating networks. The successful candidate will specialise in installing and repairing heat interface units (HIUs), fixing and replacing valves, replacing radiators, and carrying out other associated internal system repairs.

The post holder will lead a team dedicated to reactive and proactive repairs and maintenance on district heating systems within domestic properties, having a hands on approach to the successful delivery of services to residents that are connected to the district heating system.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Hold a minimum NVQ Level 3 qualification in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent) with extensive on the job experience.
  • Familiarity with heat interface units and district heating systems is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in working with various types of pipework (e.g., copper, steel, plastic).
  • Ability to install, maintain, and replace heat interface units (HIUs), including both indirect and direct systems, familiarity with radiators, thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), and balancing heating systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems for heating controls, pumps, and motorized valves with the ability to install and troubleshoot electrical components associated with HIUs and thermostats.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing issues with heating systems, such as low flow rates, temperature inconsistencies, or system blockages.
  • Understanding of safe working practices, including isolating systems, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and managing risks in domestic settings and awareness of the risks associated with hot water and steam systems.
  • Working knowledge of asset management software including: Scada, Pirana and corporate asset management systems.
  • Evidence of establishing a performance management culture, including service planning, target setting, performance appraisals and the management of different staff groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills, inspire, motivate and lead by personal example. To have clear track record of successful team development, developing others by creating a culture of innovation and achievement.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Health & Safety Legislations and other appropriate regulations.

This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English, is an essential requirement for the role.
