Provide a professional, specialist clinical support to medical and nursing staff in relation to respiratory patients for inpatients on the wards and out patients within the Chest Clinic setting. Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care. Maintain the established databases update, prioritise and ensure patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are seen within 24 hours of admission to achieve best practice tariff (BPT). Identify COPD patients that may be suitable for early supported discharge (ESD). Provide clinical leadership ensuring the delivery of the highest professional standards through staff development and individual performance appraisal/review. Assessing respiratory patients within the inpatient setting. To aid and make clinical decisions utilising expert knowledge and clinical reasoning The interpretation of ABGs, applying these to practice in order to assist the performance of oxygen assessments. Review respiratory patients prior to discharge as requested. Provide a comprehensive and appropriate plan for the short and long term management of the respiratory patient. Work alongside the established respiratory nurses, developing skills and knowledge in all areas of respiratory care and management. Develop into an independent autonomous practitioner. Work alongside the community COPD/oxygen teams referring patients on for continued support providing a seamless care for patients with respiratory disease. Involvement within the Tuberculosis (TB) service within the Stockport area. Assess, support and manage the individual with tuberculosis and their families. Management of notifications, contact tracing and the tuberculosis database. Provide expert nursing advice and support to other Health Care Professionals (HCP). Develop and deliver nurse led clinics. Participate and support the CURE tobacco addiction team. Identifying training needs within the team and delivering education and training as required. To provide mentoring, advice and support to associate specialist nurses, respiratory ward nurses and students. Deliver NIV training to hospital staff. Support and deliver NIV therapy within the clinical setting. To demonstrate knowledge of, and adhere to professional, clinical, national and local guidelines. If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
