Summary


An exciting and interesting opportunity has arisen in the Urology Centre for a Band 3 Nursing Assistant to join our team of expert and innovative Urologists, CNSs, nurses and researchers. This position will help you to build knowledge and to develop the experience and skills in order for you to further your career within Urology. We are a busy unit with a worldwide reputation. In this role you will support the clinicians, carry out a range of diagnostic procedures and run nurse led clinics. We are seeking a nursing assistant with vision and dedication, who has nursing experience with particular expertise in urology. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly renowned and innovative multi-disciplinary team at one of the UK's leading teaching Hospitals. We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident, and motivated out-patient nurse with excellent communication skills.

Informal visits are encouraged.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting and providing for the needs of our clinics. They will be required to support the team in the smooth running of all clinics and to maintain a safe working environment. We are a very specialised department and part of this role will be assisting the registered nurse within the minor procedure room, help running a smooth clinic by chaperoning, taking bloods, ordering stocks, answering queries from patients etc.

Job Summary
Carrying out assigned tasks as part of clinical team in support of registered nurses and to undertake some aspects of care provision without direct supervision. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes
dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.


Key Relationships
Internally, all the hospital personnel involved in the patient’s care. As well as external relatives, carers and visitors to the ward/department.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Clinical Duties
Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.


Undertakes a range of delegated clinical care duties to deliver agreed plans of care, acting on own initiative.


To ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.


Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.


To act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.


Provides support and assistance to professionals in the implementation of plans of care for individual patients.

As directed to collect specimens from patients and to record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate. Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse


Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to nurse in charge


To undertake venepuncture/cannulation when requested by Healthcare
professionals


Under the direction of trained staff maintain and develop own skills including:
Monitoring and recording of vital signs to include blood pressure
Recording of ECG
Simple, aseptic dressings including removal of sutures, clips and venflons
Monitoring and recording of blood glucose levels
Endoscopy competencies
Oxygen Saturations


To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care


To assist the Registered Nurse with the safe handling and mobilisation of patients and when necessary to assist in the transportation of patients.


To chaperone patients to other clinical departments, following assessment by a registered nurse, to maintain patient safety
Under the direction of the Healthcare Professional participate in the assessment, admission, discharge and handover of patients


Provide reassurance, support to patients, carers and family


Ensure own actions help to maintain quality


To respond to patient requests for non-clinical information to improve
communication.


Establish and maintain communication with people on routine and operational matters


To act always in a manner which, promotes positive working relationships and maintains the professional image of the Trust.
Understand and adhere to all Trust polices, guidelines and procedures in particular, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Waste Management and Resuscitation policies to maintain a safe working environment for patients and staff.


2. Housekeeping and Clerical Duties
Assist in the organisation and running of the ward by undertaking housekeeping and clerical duties as appropriate


To receive ward/department visitors in a hospitable manner to encourage good working relationships

To carry out reception and clerical duties as required improving department efficiency

To photocopy appropriate information to relevant disciplines

Caring for patient's property and clothing

3. Health and Safety
Report and accidents or incidents to the nurse in charge and complete the appropriate paperwork in line with Trust Policy.


Reporting and recording any potential hazards and equipment repairs


Assist in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that the area is clear of potential hazards, removing clinical waste and contaminated items to relevant collection areas.


To assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean clinical environment to reduce the risk of infection

UROLOGY OUTPATIENTS

Undertake clinical test Phlebotomy, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, flow rates, MRSA screening

Carrying out clinical observations such as BP, height & weight, document on EPIC

Assist with outpatient flexi-cystoscopy & urodynamics clinics in minor procedure rooms

Setting up clinics & stocking up room. Replace supplies

Collect patient experience/ data

Clinical Skills Competency sign off required

Escort pts to other areas if required

Take Urgent samples to Labs

Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained for departmental resources

Reporting problems to facilities management.
