Crynodeb

We are looking for a highly organised and enthusiastic Environment Assistant, to support the work of the Waste, and Land & Water Environment Management Teams in Thames Area. Our work is varied, interesting and at times fast paced. You will provide administrative support, enabling the team to meet their business targets and ultimately helping to secure positive outcomes for people, wildlife and the environment.

The administrative assistant will support the team by:

• Managing the two team Inboxes, receiving and responding to enquiries, redacting sensitive information, delegating enquiries to team members, acting as a point of contact for our Customers and Engagement team, to ensure that all requests and correspondence is responded to in an appropriate and timely manner, in order to meet statutory deadlines.
• Acting as Records Management Lead, ensuring adherence to records management requirements and the retention schedule.
• Updating and maintaining our filing system (paper/electronic) to ensure that information is accurate, up-to-date and available for use.
• Occasionally assisting team members with the compilation of case files, checking that all the necessary information is included and complies with legislation, so that non-compliances can be successfully prosecuted.
• Providing admin support to Team Leaders and Environment Officers within your team and the wider department as requested.

The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment. Everyone starting in a new role will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your comprehensive induction, you will be provided with all the equipment required for your role.
The team
You will be part of the dynamic and public facing Environment Management department in Thames area which includes three Waste, and two Land & Water Teams. You will sit within one of those teams. We respond daily to a variety of environmental incidents across Thames Area. The teams regulate permitted sites including waste management companies, farms and water companies, working to influence and encourage good practice to protect and enhance the environment.
Experience/skills required
Ideally you will have proven administrative or secretarial experience. We are seeking people who have;

• Excellent organisational skills – able to keep to deadlines, manage and prioritise your workload.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including being tactful and confident when communicating with colleagues and external customers both in writing and verbally.
• Proficiency and skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a willingness to learn about our internal IT systems and procedures.
• An interest and understanding in improving and protecting the environment will be beneficial.
• Self-motivated, with a positive attitude both when working alone or with others.
