About this opportunity:

As an ILS Engineering Manager you will lead and be responsible for a team of ILS engineers to ensure all ILS activities are delivered to requirements, schedule, budget and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and drive team adherence to company values, processes and procedures
  • Promote and adhere to Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and best practice
  • Ensure efficient delivery of ILS outputs to requirements, schedule, budget and quality
  • Leadership and performance management of functional team of up to 10 ILS engineers
  • Create a culture for development, innovation and continuous improvement through setting stretching goals for self and teams, rewarding high performance
  • Define and maintain appropriate team reporting to support business performance (Metrics - Performance, Schedule, Budget, Quality)
  • Provision / prioritisation of appropriate resourcing to support business performance
  • Ensure lessons learnt and best practice are shared across the business to support continuous improvement and consistency
  • Make timely decisions considering risk and business performance, and act promptly to mobilise resources and team to resolve issues
  • Finance management of ILS team budget
  • Deliver functional performance to support company financial objectives
  • Ensure ILS principles influence early design to minimise costs

Tasks to be done within the responsibility of the role include:

  • Allocate appropriate resources to successfully deliver work packages or projects
  • Lead regular team meetings to share feedback including performance and metrics
  • Support formal project reviews and provide ILS guidance across the business unit.
  • Agree ILS functional budget and monitor expenditure to meet outputs
  • Produce, or review and approve engineering technical documents
  • Produce, or review and approve technical specifications for sub-contract suppliers
  • Manage team performance to ensure delivery to requirements, schedule, budget and quality
  • Work Package Management to ensure appropriate control and deliverables remain on track
  • Conduct Professional Development Reviews and support development of team - Identify development needs and opportunities and provide coaching / training to develop technical capability
  • Weekly and Monthly reporting on task progress, issues / blockers, transformation / improvements, risks / uncertainty and resourcing.

Please apply if you have most of the following:

  • A broad understanding of ILS and engineering principles
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Proven line management experience including performance development
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with energy and enthusiasm at all levels within and outside of the business
  • Good IT skills, including Word and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of the following international specifications:
    • S1000D - Technical Publications
    • S2000M - Material Management
    • S3000L - Logistic Support Analysis
    • S4000A - Scheduled Maintenance Analysis
    • S4000M - Maintenance Task Analysis
    • S5000F - Operational and Maintenance Data Feedback
  • Knowledge/Experience of:
    • DefStan 00-600 and/or JSP886
    • ASD S Series ILS standards
    • DSAT and awareness of the work in progress S6000T - Training and Training Needs Analysis
    • Initial Provisioning, Spares Modelling, Codification and Packaging Handling Storage and Transportation
    • Availability, Reliability, Maintainability and Testability analysis and its military application or Def Stan 00-40 R&M
    • Military publications such as AESP, Air Publications (Def Stan 00-601 Parts 1-4) or IETPs (ASD1000D)
    • Configuration Management and Documentation Control.
    • ILS elements in addition to the above i.e.:
      • Design Interface.
      • Maintenance Planning.
      • Human Factors.
      • Support and Test Equipment.
      • Manpower and Personnel.
      • Software support.
      • Facilities.
      • Packaging, Handling, Storage and Transportation.
      • Obsolescence Management.
      • Disposal Management.
  • Awareness of:
    • Health and Safety at Work legislation.
    • United Kingdom and European Union Disposal Legislation.
    • Military support skills and capabilities, procedures and requirements.

Once this is complete, they would be required to undertake the SC process. Each SC is dealt with on its own merits by UKSV.
