PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FULL DUTIES OF THE ROLE. This advert is for a Consultant appointment on a permanent basis. The post holder will join the existing team of 27 Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultants. Overall responsibilities include assisting the department in coordinating and delivering the strategic and operational aspects of Trauma and Orthopaedic services to the surrounding population. The post holder is expected to possess FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent and to be on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of taking up the post. Fellowship training covering spinal orthopaedics is essential and additional training in the management of general trauma would be desirable. The post holder is expected to attend the bi-monthly Directorate meetings and take part in monthly Audit and Clinical Governance meetings and related activities. The post-holder will undergo annual appraisal and 5 yearly revalidation in line with GMC requirements. The post holder will also be expected to develop the service in keeping with national guidance and local needs. The appointee will be expected to undergo continuing medical education in accordance with the guidelines agreed by the Royal College of Surgeons and the post-holder will be entitled and encouraged to take regulatory study leave. The T&O Department regularly receives medical students from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland plus occasionally from elsewhere and the post-holder will be expected to assist with their teaching. The final Job Plan will be agreed in discussion between the successful candidate and the Clinical Director and will be subject to Annual Review.
