Skills & Experience:
Understanding of housing regulations, support services, and government programs, particularly related to refugee resettlement or housing support.
Experience in working with vulnerable groups, such as refugees, children, or people in need of housing support. This could include social work, community outreach, housing, or welfare roles.
Experience in conducting property assessments or inspections, including understanding of safety standards and housing regulations.
Experience working with or knowledge of government programs, particularly those related to resettlement schemes, housing, or refugee support.
Excellent time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with regulations.
Proven ability to work independently in outreach settings, conducting home visits and assessments in a respectful and supportive manner.
Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, with experience in providing guidance to individuals and liaising with external stakeholders.
Desirable:
A relevant qualification in social care, housing, community development, or a related field would be advantageous (e.g., a degree or diploma in social work, housing studies, or a related discipline).
What's involved with this role: Your role is to support the Homes for Ukraine scheme, helping Ukrainian refugees find accommodation with local hosts. You will be responsible for coordinating initial visits with sponsors, conducting property checks to ensure accommodation meets required standards, processing DBS documentation, issuing payment vouchers, conducting welfare visits, addressing queries, and maintaining accurate records. This role will involve working independently in an outreach capacity, while liaising closely with the visiting officer, scheme administrator, and Head of Service.
Key responsibilities:
Understand DLUHC guidelines for assessing sponsor suitability and carry out relevant checks accordingly.
Contact sponsors in Merton, arrange property checks, and advise on necessary repairs before guests arrive.
Verify documentation (e.g., Council Tax bills, tenancy proof) and identity for DBS checks.
Report visit findings to the scheme administrator to ensure compliance with the government database.
Maintain ongoing communication with the sponsor until guests arrive, ensuring all requirements are met.
Conduct follow-up visits upon guest arrival, ensure welfare, and issue initial payments, keeping accurate records.
Ensure personal data is handled securely and in compliance with data protection regulations.
