This is an exciting opportunity to train as a Horticulture Apprentice while working towards a recognised Lantra Level 2 qualification in partnership with Capel Manor College. You’ll gain hands-on experience maintaining the Horniman’s beautiful gardens, learning essential horticultural skills while studying one day per week.
About the Scheme
This academic and vocational training programme is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Finnis Scott Foundation. It offers supervised training as a Gardener at the Horniman, in partnership with Capel Manor College, enabling you to earn a Lantra Level 2 qualification.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with garden maintenance, including grass cutting, weeding, hedge trimming, and plant propagation.
• Safely operate and maintain horticultural tools and machinery (training provided).
• Ensure visitor safety and provide friendly engagement with the public.
• Follow health and safety regulations, including COSHH and PPE requirements.
About You
In this role, you’ll enjoy working outdoors in all weather, be physically capable of manual work, and have a passion for horticulture. You’ll be a team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.
Key Qualities, Skills, and Experience
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Enthusiastic, reliable, and eager to develop a career in horticulture.
• Willingness to complete training in first aid, safe pesticide use, and machinery operation.
Other Requirements
• This role involves physical work outdoors year-round (protective clothing provided).
• A standard DBS check is required.
