Summary
The Horticultural Assistant is responsible in the first instance to the Supervisor and or / Operations Manager. This role is a temporary on a Fixed Term Contract from March to the end of August 2025. The role is part-time over 4 days. Working hours for each day will be 9am until 4.00 pm, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. We are flexible on the working days, please enquire for more details. The hourly rate for the post is £11.44 per hour increasing to £12.21per hour from 1st April 2025
The specific duties of the Horticultural Assistant are:
• to be willing to work in a fast-paced high volume production area with accuracy.
• to work under the guidance of the Head of Habitat/Supervisor to learn the tasks required to grow from seed, pick out, monitor health of plants and grade trees.
• to aid required volume production methods and honour techniques for establishing tree/plant health.
• to help maintain a good standard of arboriculture/horticulture and tidiness in the work area.
• to ensure proper health and safety procedures are carried out as instructed by the Supervisor.
• to report any concerns of plant/tree performance swiftly to the Supervisor.
• to undertake appropriate, and mutually agreed, courses of training.
• to participate in staff meetings.
• to maintain confidentiality.
• other reasonable duties involved in the general running of the nursery.
