Key summary of the role:
Advising all levels of staff and, where appropriate, elected Members, on Health and Safety matters, including their responsibilities under Health and Safety legislation and the council's Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy. To be the �competent person� in accordance with Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Key tasks
� Monitor compliance with the council's incident reporting system and produce reports on the incidents utilising data from the system, for presentation at the council's two health, safety and wellbeing committees.
� Support managers with the production of appropriate service and task/ activity specific risk assessments and review completed assessments.
� Take action to ensure that any unsafe activities causing imminent or serious danger are ceased immediately and ensure that the Head of HR and the Chief Executive are immediately made aware of any such action required.
� Provide professional support and advice to service areas to ensure appropriate health and safety management and performance of relevant contracts and properties.
� Monitor compliance with the council's safety inspection regime including periodically undertaking inspections alongside service managers/ UNISON safety representatives.
