Crynodeb
Due to maternity leave we have an opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our Brain Injury ( BI ) service within the University Hospitals of Leicester, providing input to the Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (NRU) and Brain Injury Unit (BIU) at the Leicester General Hospital.
You will be working as part of an experienced team with SLTs ranging from Band 7-5 includes and a Band 4 SLT Assistant.
You will work as an integral member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team providing holistic patient care.
NRU is a 16-bedded unit providing specialist rehabilitation for adults with neurological conditions or injuries , for example brain injury or stroke. Patients are offered regular therapy and care plan meetings during their admission before being discharged home or to residential / nursing care or to slow stream rehabilitation.
BIU is a 9-bedded unit providing specialist rehabilitation for people aged 16-65 who have had a brain injury. This unit supports patients with highly complex needs including those in prolonged disorders of consciousness ( PDOC) and those with tracheostomies.
Applications will be welcomed from therapists experienced in working with patients with Brain Injury. Ideally, the successful applicant will have competencies in videofluoroscopy and/or tracheostomy management.
There is also the opportunity to work with patients in the critical care setting.
· Working independently with adults with a range of acquired and often complex communication and swallowing disorders, their carers and the multi-disciplinary team.
· Contributing to UK ROC data collection.
· Contributing to regular team meetings and in-service training.
· Providing clinical supervision, mentoring and training opportunities for junior members of staff.
· Facilitating student placements.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
