University Hospital. Opportunities can be provided to further develop additional sub-specialty interests dependant on the needs and existing provision in the Croydon Colorectal Service.
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon. The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 4,100 staff provide services for a population of over 360,000 people who are relatively young with a high level of ethnic diversity.
Our main hospital site, Croydon University Hospital is one of the busiest in London. We’re also leading the way in providing more healthcare outside hospitals at clinics, specialist centres and in people’s homes. Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after people of all ages across Croydon and our Children’s Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.
Across the NHS everyone is working hard to meet growing demand and we’re no exception. But with the right people on board, we are rising to this challenge, putting our people in the driving seat, encouraging innovation and transforming our services to give local people the quality of care they deserve. Croydon Health Services puts a great deal of importance on education and training throughout the careers of all of our staff. As well as offering access to a range of core skills training and professional development.
The Croydon Colorectal Service provides a broad spectrum of diagnostic and surgical care. Colorectal cancer diagnostic and surgical care is undertaken at Croydon University Hospital including TEMS for early rectal cancer. Oncological care is provided in conjunction with the Royal Marsden Hospital. The JAG-accredited Endoscopy unit provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services
including advanced polypectomy in the form of EMR and ESD as well as ERCP and EUS. The Pelvic Floor unit works closely with the Urogynaecology team in undertaking joint MDTs, clinics and

primary & re-operative IBD is undertaken and the care of IBD patients is undertaken in close conjunction with the Gastroenterology team including joint clinics and MDTs. Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction surgery is supported by a multi-specialty MDT and adjuncts including abdominal wall Botox therapy and both anterior and posterior component separation are routinely undertaken. The service contributes joint operating and MDT support to the BSGE-accredited Croydon Endometriosis Centre treating complex deep infiltrating endometriosis involving bowel.
The successful applicant should have an audit and research portfolio, with an ongoing interest in expanding the portfolio and experience in establishing research trials. They should also demonstrate management responsibilities and a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
Applicants should either already be on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC), or within six months of eligibility to be included, and hold a license to practice. Please see the attached Person Specification for further details of essential and desirable criteria for the post.
