Summary
Summary:
Oversees the setup, operation, and maintenance of multi-head embroidery machines (6, 8, 12+ heads), ensuring high-volume, high-quality output for a busy London-based production facility. Acts as a team lead, mentoring junior operators and coordinating with management on production schedules and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Calibration:
-Configure multi-head embroidery machines with correct thread colours, needle types, and tension settings.
-Ensure uniform calibration across all heads and troubleshoot complex issues as they arise.
Production Oversight & Quality Control:
-Plan and oversee daily production schedules in coordination with the production manager.
-Inspect finished products for accuracy (stitch density, color matching, alignment) and sign off on final quality.
-Monitor real-time run data (e.g., pieces per hour, thread break frequency) to ensure targets are met.
Team Leadership & Training:
-Train and mentor junior operators on best practices for speed, precision, and machine care.
-Conduct regular briefings to address production targets, machine maintenance schedules, and safety protocols.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
-Perform advanced machine maintenance (cleaning, lubricating, and minor repairs) and coordinate more complex repairs with service technicians.
-Diagnose recurring mechanical or software-related issues and propose solutions to minimize downtime.
Process Improvement & Reporting:
-Recommend improvements in workflow, materials usage, and machine settings to boost efficiency.
-Maintain records of machine performance, production outputs, and any recurring maintenance needs.
Essential Criteria
Experience & Expertise:
-Minimum 5 years of experience operating multi-head Happy Japan commercial embroidery machines, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior role.
-Proven track record of meeting production targets in a fast-paced environment.
-Demonstrable success leading multi-head embroidery teams and complex production schedules.
Technical & Mechanical Skills:
-Strong understanding of thread tensioning, needle selection, hooping techniques, and design registration.
-Deep understanding of commercial Happy Japan embroidery machines, machine maintenance, and advanced embroidery techniques.
-Ability to diagnose and fix common machine issues (thread breaks, design misalignments, tension irregularities).
Leadership & Communication:
-Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a small team of operators.
Clear written and verbal communication for coordinating with staff and management.
Attention to Detail & Quality Focus:
-Sharp eye for stitch consistency, colour accuracy, and minimal wastage.
Willingness to uphold and enforce stringent quality control measures.
Desirable Criteria
Digitizing Knowledge:
-Basic familiarity with embroidery digitizing software (e.g., Wilcom, Pulse) for minor on-machine edits.
Process Improvement Methods:
-Background in Lean manufacturing or similar process improvement methodologies.
Production Management Skills:
-Experience creating or managing production schedules and inventory for threads, backings, and other consumables.
