Summary
Job Description
• To produce machined parts using the most suitable methods by either CNC or manually
operated equipment to required standard & quality within given time period.
• To program CNC machines from manufacturing drawings, setting up, and operating;
maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and
supplies.
• Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points;
setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and calculating requirements, including basic
math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving CAM part programs.
• Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance records; following
manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions & calling for repairs where
necessary
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
• Time served in a recognised Engineering/Manufacturing apprenticeship.
• Mathematics - Using mathematics to solve problems
• IT- Basic understanding of Microsoft office.
• Inspection - Read metric & imperial manual measuring equipment, Vernier callipers dial
gauges, micrometres, slip gauges etc.
• Engineering - Read engineering drawings, program CNC code Prototrak & age control.
• Fabrication - General fabrication & hand tool use, measurement and marking out.
• Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining
when and what kind of maintenance is needed
• Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality
control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and sale of
goods.
•Ideally working knowledge of XYZ conversational milling and turning centres
