A Vacancy at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

This post is for a consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. This is a whole-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

The Trust is recruiting to a new post, created as a result of the Trust's response to Ockenden recommendations and the Trust’s commitment to women’s health.

The post holder will help to change how we deliver women's services at the Trust and builds on the development of women’s healthcare that the Trust has undertaken over the last 3-4 years.

Maternity Services and Gynaecology Services are based at Ormskirk Hospital. Clinics are conducted at Southport Hospital and May Logan Community Centre. With shaping care together, there is a drive to take services closer to the women and conduct more clinics in the community.

Duties include:
• To participate in the provision of an Obstetric and Gynaecological service to Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals in co-operation with the other Consultants in post.
• Help ensure the department meets its cancer targets.
• To act as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and to maintain a safe, friendly and efficient service.
• To assist in providing 60 hours dedicated Consultant time on the delivery suite and to participate in alternative models of achieving this.
• To assist in delivering elective Caesarean section lists and termination services (providing you have no moral objection to terminations)
• To share in the administration and management of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology services.
• To share in the direct supervision of junior medical staff, physician associate students, midwifery and nursing staff and medical students taking responsibility for their ongoing education and training.
• To participate in clinical audit, adverse event review, guideline development review, external review and service development.

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust serves a population of over 600,000 with a workforce of over 9000 dedicated and skilled staff across 21 sites.

We strongly believe that the communities we serve should all have access to Five Star Patient Care.
