Summary

The post holder is responsible for assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for being in charge of the ward and supervising junior members of staff. The post holder will be a key member in relation to the development of practice on the ward. They will be working independently / autonomously and at times without direct supervision, accountable for their own professional working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles To care for all patients undergoing any interventional Cardiology Unit procedure and to implement treatment prescribed by medical staff, according to departmental policies. This requires: Maintaining accurate and legible records of care Knowledge and understanding of ones role in an emergency situation and acting appropriately. Preparing and Laying up sterile trolleys for specific procedures and completing daily safety checks of stock and equipment. Competence at removal of arterial/venous sheath and managing haemostasis with arterial closure device. To have specific knowledge about pacemaker leads and modes of pacing Knowledge in the management of temporary pacemakers, threshold measurement and safe removal of temporary pacing leads To assist the operator during cardiac catherisation and devices implants Understanding of cardiac rhythms and the significance of changes Knowledge of the intravenous and intra coronary drugs administered both routinely and in emergency situations and to prepare the same Dexterity to manipulate guide wires, balloon catheters, pressure wires, inflators. Knowledge of a variety of catheters, guide wires and balloon catheters and their use in different circumstances Recognising and understanding of disease of the coronary arteries, identified via angiographic evidence with the ability to follow the procedures and take appropriate action. To carry out safety checks of swabs, instruments and needles in conjunction with the second person in accordance with the local policy and maintain the highest standard of asepsis both in the preparation for and the duration of the procedure Maintain and protect the safety, confidentiality and dignity of patient and their families, offering support and reassurance patient during the procedure
